Thank you for this! I don't know this Akathist hymn, but my guess is that it is similar in structure to that of the Byzantine liturgy? Certainly there are many Old Testament types for Mary in the Byzantine one too!
No--it's more like a long poem, though it seems to have bits and pieces from the Akathist. But it's much longer than the Akathist. And I feel that it's even more richly biblical and typological than even the Akathist is. Piles of reference footnotes on every page. it's an astounding work, I cannot recommend it enough. I've bought it four times because I keep giving it away to friends.
